The first bathroom taking shape in Cabin C More to do on the inside Volunteer and organizer, George Amos, in the shower stall Bathrooms under construction--latest photos above! We
are thanking God that our building permit was granted, allowing us to install
bathrooms in the cabins. The permit
came through on Christmas Eve! And
the first bathroom is framed and progressing nicely. This
is a project undertaken as a result of a report prepared by the committee for
youth ministry and presented to the diocese in 2006.
One member of the committee, George Amos from Holy Faith of Santa Fe,
didn’t stop with a list of recommendations.
He and Board Members Don Pattison and Ray Holland have rolled up their
sleeves and gotten involved to get it done.
From finding an architect and applying for the permit, to tearing down
drywall and framing up the walls, these friends of Camp Stoney have taken a
great idea and made it happen.
Why
is this project so exciting? It is
an important step in making the facilities at Camp Stoney more adult friendly
for use in the off-season. We need
to increase our off-season income to offset the summer camp expenses. Eventually
we will be installing bathrooms in most if not all of the cabins.
The first two installed this spring will be completely handicapped
accessible and they are being put in the middle of the cabin, so that in the
off-season the cabins can be divided into two rooms, both with access to the
bathroom.
These
improvements will make our facilities more welcoming to adult visitors as well
as summer campers who are in wheelchairs, or have other special needs.
Some donations have come in to help with cost of materials. We are looking for a certified electrician who could donate time to get the electrical work done. If you would like to get involved with this project, make a donation, or book the camp for a family reunion or other event, please call us.
